The statistics are in and crime is on the rise-what a surprise!
Property crime occurs every 3 seconds, a home burglary every 15 seconds.
Now there is a new threat “Home Invasion”. “Home Invasion” is a term police use when a suspect enters a home with or without force and confronts the occupants to commit a robbery and or other crimes such as assault, rape, torture or even murder.
“Home Invasion” is particularly troubling because of the potential trauma it inflicts on the occupants, parents and especially small children and the potential threat of assault, rape, torture or even murder.
To me it seems like “home invasion” is much more intimidating than a regular burglary. It is one thing to have your home burglarized when you are not there. That is bad enough. But to have someone invade your home while you are there brandishing a knife or gun brings the violation up a notch to a whole new level.
It is my sincere hope that none of my readers/customers ever have to go thru the trauma of a home invasion or burglary.
Forewarned is forearmed or something like that. Take these steps to help prepare for what is almost inevitable.
1. MAKE YOUR HOME YOUR CASTLE Secure it the best you can. Do the obvious things doors, windows, etc. Eliminate hiding places. Install some door and window alarms. And while you’re at it check to see if the “Castle Doctrine” applies in your area.
2. “GET SMART and GET A PLAN” Home Invaders can be thwarted if you and your family have a plan and have practiced what to do in case of an intrusion. That plan must assuredly involve some non lethal self defense weapons such as stun guns, tasers, pepper sprays, stun batons, etc. located throughout the house.
3. PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE Practice what to do in the event of an emergency and practice how to use your non lethal self defense weapons. Nothing beats having a split second response in an emergency.
4. HAVE A FAIL SAFE WAY TO GET 911 Land lines, cell phones, smoke signals-some way to get help that will work no matter what.
If you follow these tips not only will you be prepared but the worry factor will diminish.

Home Security And Self Defense – The Best Way To Protect Your Home And Family
Monday, May 31st, 2010The Best Red Sea Holiday Destination
Monday, May 31st, 2010Hurghada holidays have been inviting keen divers here for the last 50 years. This thriving tourist resort in Egyptâ??s Red Sea Riviera began life as a small fishing village and has developed almost beyond recognition over the last half century. It is roughly split into three main areas, although these are now so well developed they have just about merged into one large resort.
Furthest north is the old town of Ad-Dahar this is the main area and has managed to preserve some of its traditional fishing village image. It is set a little away from the main hotel strip, although does have some of the best restaurants, however it is quieter here and does not offer much in the way of nightlife. Just south is Port of Sigala and then below that New Hurghada.
With a 25 mile stretch of coastline it is easy to see why keen divers enjoy Hurghada holidays year after year, but there are also plenty of other water sports available. Northerly winds mean windsurfing, kite surfing, paragliding and sailing conditions are exceptionally good here, deep sea fishing trips are readily accessible and the pristine beaches are ideal for families with each hotel usually having its own stretch.
Most hotels on Hurghada holidays also offer dive opportunities for tourists of all ages and experience. Most of the best dive sites are slightly off shore so require a short boat ride to reach them, with Giftun Island being one of the best.
If diving seems a little intense then grab a snorkel and enjoy the underwater world from above. Boats will take you to small islands with fantastic opportunities to see the colourful corals and rainbow coloured fish that dance below the surface.
The canvas covered alleys and traditional souks offer everything from fashion and handbags to spices and shisha pipes or brassware and copper, leather goods and rugs.
The melodic call to prayer rings through the air as the friendly traders entice you to haggle and offer a cup of hibiscus tea for your trouble.
Hurghada holidays can offer trips to Luxor and the Temples of Karnak and Valley of the Kings or to archaeological sites close by. Jeep safaris take you out into the desert to discover life as a traditional Bedouin would see it.
Hurghada holidays have something for the whole family and with winter temperatures that rarely drop below 23°C it is the perfect year round holiday destination.
Luggage For A New Age Of Travel
Monday, May 31st, 2010Back in the simple days of air travel, a nice set of luggage containing at least three pieces was enough. Carry on bags were usually men’s briefcases and ladies purses. Those days are long gone. We have much more to carry now and with airport restrictions being what they are, it can be difficult to pack what you need to, without damaging electronic equipment.
Pleasure or Business
The type of luggage or bags you need for your trip will depend upon if you are traveling for business or for pleasure. If you are a business traveler you may only need a wheeled traveler to keep all your things together and perhaps a garment bag for you to pack the all important power suit. Of course if you carrying your laptop, you will need your computer briefcase to carry it.
For those who are traveling for pleasure, they may not need a garment bag. They made just need a nice matched set of luggage is large enough to pack what you need, yet compact enough to travel and carry through the airport with ease. Your carry one luggage may consist of a small bag where you carry important things like magazines, gum, tickets and itineraries and anything else you are allowed to carry on these days.
Types Of Luggage You Can Choose From
No matter what your style is or the reason for traveling, there are many different kinds of luggage you can buy these days. Many people opt for backpacks. They also come with a computer compartment or they can come as wheeled back packs, though I think that kind of defeats the purpose. You can find a wide selection of wheeled luggage which you may find more convenient to lug around the different areas of the airport where you have to check in. There are also great roomy carry-ons if you are only going on a short trip and don’t want to check your luggage.
There are also many name brand luggage companies where you can choose your traveling gear. Companies like American Tourister often have the latest in trends and are well known for their strength and durability. You can choose from Samsonite, a company that has been selling luggage for a few generations or any number of famous name luggage brands.
You can do your shopping for your traveling gear quickly and easily when you decide to do it online. You will be able to visit many websites and compare prices and values, so you can pick the perfect set of luggage that will be able to handle long trips and quick jaunts for many years to come. Most people don’t realize that buying luggage is an investment. You may cringe at the price at first, but if it quality made, it should last you a lifetime.
Next time you are ready to fly the friendly skies, leave your old ratty suitcase at home and invest in a piece of luggage that tells the world you have some grace, style and class
